Fred Pohlman - Inventor of the Easy Spud

Fred is a native of Calhoun County, Illinois.  Calhoun County is quite unique.  It is bordered by the Mississippi River on the west and the Illinois River on the east [Click to see map].  The confluence of these two great rivers lies on the county's southern border.  The rivers, ox-bow lakes, sloughs, and conservation areas make Calhoun County one of the truly great outdoors spots in the country.  Fred has lived and worked on or near the surrounding water for almost his entire life.

He is a retired riverboat captain and the former owner of the Golden Eagle Ferry near Golden Eagle, Illinois.   Fred has always been an avid fisherman.  "The challenge for all fisherman," according to Fred, "is to be in the right place at the right time.  The problem is, once you find the right place, how do you stay there?"  Whether you're fishing, hunting, or just enjoying Nature, holding your boat in place against winds and currents can be a frustrating, time consuming, and often an impossible task.  Boaters and fishermen have used poles to propel their crafts, since time began.  The genius of Fred's patented design is that it combines 360 degree maneuverability with a locking device that provides staying power when you need it.  .

Fred lives near Golden Eagle with his lovely wife, Sue.  They have two children and six grandkids.
